Pointy Flat House : National Finalist in the 2025 COLORSTEEL® Awards
A few weeks ago, we attended the 2025 COLORSTEEL® Awards, where our Pointy Flat House was named one of only six national finalists in the Residential Building of the Year Category. While we didn’t take home the top award, we’re genuinely proud to have this project recognised — particularly as a smaller, highly personal home among a field of impressive larger-scale builds.
The awards jury visited the site earlier in the year and noted the home’s individual character, thoughtful proportions, and the way the design responds so carefully to its setting. For us, those comments reflected exactly what made this project special.
Material Choice With Purpose
We chose the COLORSTEEL® Kahu® profile for both the upper cladding and roof — a decision driven by performance, sustainability, and the cohesive look our clients wanted. Using Kahu across the full envelope allowed us to create a clean, continuous form while the tight rib pattern introduced depth through refined shadow lines. Its contemporary texture contrasts beautifully with the existing corrugated iron and cast concrete, giving the home a fresh identity without losing its history.
A Meaningful Recognition for a Small-but-mighty Project
Pointy Flat House may be modest in scale, but it’s full of personality, careful detailing, and design moments that matter. Being recognised at a national level reinforces the value of thoughtful, well-crafted architecture — regardless of size.
