Chris Norman Honoured as Fellow of the NZIA
We are proud to share that our Principal, Chris Norman, has been honoured as a Fellow of the Te Kãhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) at the 2024 awards in Queenstown. This recognition highlights Chris’ remarkable contributions to architecture, his leadership in sustainable design, and his commitment to the urban design community.
Chris has always been passionate about creating practical, sustainable solutions that meet both environmental and client needs. His work extends beyond individual projects, as he’s been an active advocate for urban design in Wanaka and Cardrona, steering key initiatives like the town centre design guidelines. His contributions to the NZIA Southern Branch as Chair and his involvement with numerous local and national organizsations showcase his dedication to improving the built environment.
With over 38 years of experience, Chris’ journey began on the Kāpiti Coast, and after honing his skills overseas, he settled in Wanaka in 2003. In 2018, Chris partnered with Beth Chaney-Walker to form Chaney & Norman Architects, where they continue to push boundaries in sustainable design and energy-efficient architecture.
Fellowship in the NZIA is one of the highest honours that can be awarded, recognising not only design excellence but also outstanding contributions to the profession and the community.
To top off this achievement, Chris also completed his Homestar Designers course. The Homestar Designer course focuses on teaching an in-depth understanding of the theory and application of the Homestar rating tool and principles of sustainable design. This is just another small step along our continual learning journey to help you design the best buildings possible.
