There has been a revolutionary release of ArchiCad (13) which is my BIM enabled CAD software. The significant feature is an upgrade to the TEAMWORK capabilities where DELTA-server™ technology enables users to work on the same project simultaneously. There is no overlap as only one user can work on a given element at one time, while other users can visualize these changes as they happen. Only the changed elements are exchanged between the client and the server when the user updates work in that area, there is no waiting time for server synchronization and updated information is exchanged frequently.

So how does this affect a small architects practice like Chris Norman Architecture Ltd? This allows greater flexibility for workload and size of project; which translates to delivering all manner of projects when required. We can seamlessly outsource extra workload to draughting contractors or collaborate on larger or specialty projects with the network of architects we have established throughout New Zealand. We understand a number of Consulting Structural Engineers have started using ArchiCad which is an attractive prospect as the TEAMWORK facility will eliminate project delays experienced exchanging information back and forth between consultants using different software programs.

As a small practice we may not be innovators in technology but we are able to quickly adapt and embrace the latest proven technology.
